Wedding photographer with a relaxed approach

No doubt you are aware of the amount of variety you have available to you when searching for a wedding photographer to photograph your wedding.

The question is, how do you know who is the right photographer for you and your requirements? Which photographer genuinely cares about your wedding day? How important is a photographer to your wedding day really?

What most couples fail to realise is that a wedding photographer is much more than, well, a wedding photographer.

Like a composer at a concert, a wedding photographer has a few more roles than just a photographer. Here are a few of them roles:

1. Crowd control

When it comes to getting your important photos of your friends and family after the ceremony, I have never had friends and family lining up to have their photo being taken. What this does is add extra stress on the bride and groom because they have a limited time to get these photos, along with their couples portraits, all the while making sure they are received on time for their wedding breakfast.

Guests are off getting a drink, to the toilet, and interested in finding food more so than having their photo taken.

More ofter than not, your photographer is running around trying to find important friends and family and making sure you are getting them “key photographs”. Crowd control is a vital skill in any given wedding photographer’s skill set because this helps you get the wedding photos you want from your group shots and couples portraits. The reverse of this is having a wedding photographer that does not have these skills, meaning, you may not get the photos you want from your group shot list and possibly lead to you not having much time for your couples portraits.

Also, most event organisers expect the photographer to know the wedding timeline and often look to the photographer for help. An example of this is the confetti shot. Throughout my wedding photography career, I have never experienced the crowd at a wedding just line up for the confetti throwing. And most of the time I find myself handing out wedding confetti to guest in the lead up to the photograph.

2. Advice on venues

How important are your wedding photos to you really? I would imagine they are extremely important to you and maybe you have a certain aesthetic you want them to look and feel like?

Having shot at over 100 wedding venues within Essex, Kent, and London, I know the best venues from a lighting and staff etiquette point of view. However, little do brides and grooms know about the pitfalls that most venues offer. Here are a few tips to hiring the right wedding venue for the perfect wedding:

– Light
Look at the light inside the venue. Is it light and airy or does it have “dark and dingy” vibe. If so, this will also come across in your wedding photos. A work around for this is flash photography but this has a strong look and feel. TIP: Make sure you build a mood board with your photographer in the first instance to see how these photos will look and feel.

– What if it rains
Here in the UK rain is a definite possibility, so try to make sure by asking the event organiser, especially if you have a large amount of guest, what happened if it rains? Where do all my friends and family go? And where will I do the group shots? Also worth looking at how good the light is in that area because it will change the look and feel of your photos.

-Reviews
Look at the reviews of the venue. May seem an obvious one but you’ll be surprised at some of the etiquette performed by members of staff on any given wedding day.

3. After your photos are delivered

A lot of the couples I work with want to hang a few photos within their home. And very seldom do I have any couples speaking to me about this during the consultation process. Maybe because they haven’t given it much thought.

Printing photos is a skill in itself if you want quality. Things like CMYK, RGB, pixel resolution, and the amount of the DPI in each photograph all have an important factor to play when printing your wedding photos. Especially if you are wanting a wedding album from your photos.

TIP: Ask your photographer if he or she has experience in printing wedding photos. And also ask what print house he or she uses to print these prints.

These are just a few elements to hiring the right wedding photographer for your wedding. If you would like to speak with me more about hiring the right wedding photographer for your wedding, then simply CLICK HERE to arrange a call with me and I will help any way I can.
